SMIT Heavy Lift
Work in the SMIT Heavy Lift Division typically involves a lot of time at the project location and less sailing time. SMIT Heavy Lift has a fleet of floating sheer legs that are used in projects worldwide, including the assembly of offshore structures and bridge construction, the salvaging of shipwrecks, and other hoisting and lifting activities.

SMIT Transport
The vessels in the transport fleet are deployed for a range of activities, including pusher tug and towage work, assisting in the construction of oil and gas terminals, salvage work, heavy transport and anchoring work.
Responsibilities:
As Captain, you are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the vessel and its crew so that the desired commercial and operational objectives are achieved. You prepare the journeys and projects and you ensure the safe and efficient manoeuvring and navigation of the vessel. You command the crew, making sure they are aware of their responsibilities and are able to fulfil these responsibilities to the best of their ability. You guarantee discipline, order, cleanliness and tidiness on board in order to create a hygienic and pleasant working environment.
In addition to managing all the required administrative work, you are also responsible for maintaining contacts with third parties (e.g. customers, authorities and other agencies). You draft reports on any unsafe situations or actions in order to help increase the overall level of safety in accordance with the law and internal guidelines and procedures. In order to further improve safety, you will take part in safety exercises to ensure that the crew are able to respond adequately in emergency situations.
Requirements:
• Up to 3000 GT or Master All Ships certificate:
• Dutch citizenship is required:
• Valid certificates of fitness for maritime work:
• Basic Safety Training and Advanced Firefighting:
• Radar Navigator, Ship Management, Medical Training U (Unlimited):
• Experience on a tug/multicat or similar vessel is a plus:
• Experience with towage services or pusher tug work or with anchor handling activities is a plus.

SMIT also offers candidates the possibility of extending their current certificate to Master All Ships!
